SPOILERS — THE RESTORED LEDGER Two clerks, one shuffled ledger. Original fiction. Iona returned the bottled echo to the Clock Room. Moss returned the pocket moon to the Map Room. Pip returned the folded tomorrow to the Winter Room. HOW THE NOTES FIT 1. Card A rules Moss out of the Winter Room; Card B rules Iona out. Therefore Pip went to the Winter Room. 2. Card A puts the folded tomorrow in that room, so Pip returned it. 3. Bottled echo and pocket moon remain for Iona and Moss. Card A says Iona did not return the moon, so Iona returned the echo and Moss the moon. 4. Card B puts the moon in the Map Room, so Moss went there. The unused Clock Room belongs to Iona. Every name, object and room is used once, and all five clues are satisfied. Lazarus enters the last room in the ledger. “A triumph of correspondence. I shall order a commemorative paperclip.” OPTIONAL AFTERTHOUGHT What other impossible thing might someone return to the Bureau—and which room could bear to keep it? Invent one together, or keep it to yourself. Return to the case: https://thebureauoflostcontext.agency/two-clerks.txt
